Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

COPPA applies to commercial companies and limits their ability to collect personal information from children under 13. This permission form allows the Purple Maiʻa to act as an agent for parents in the collection of information within the program context. Purple Maiʻa’s use of student information is solely for education purposes.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA protects the privacy of student education records and gives parents rights to review student records. Under FERPA, schools may disclose directory information (name, phone, address, grade level, etc...) but parents may request that the school not disclose this information.
Purple Maiʻa will not publish confidential education records (performance record, student ID #, etc...) for public viewing on the Internet. Purple Maiʻa may publish student work and photos for public viewing but will not publish student last names or other personally identifiable information. Parents may request that photos, names and general directory information about their children not be published. Parents have the right at any time to investigate the contents of their child’s email and electronic files.

The following are the only personal information we gather from users: name, email address, and IP address used to access our system. It is used for internal purposes only. This information can be deleted, and new collection of information stopped at any time by deleting the user’s account. You can do this by emailing with the request. Any inquiries about user online privacy can be directed to Purple Maiʻa at or 808-534-8761.

Google Services

Our services allow the use of Google Login for a simplified account creation/signon experience. When logged into with Google, the only information we collect from a user is their name, email address, IP address, and Google profile ID. This information is only used to authenticate the user and authorize their enrollment for our classes. This information is only used internally.

Additionally also integrates with Google Drive so that teachers can share files from Drive to their classrooms and students can store classwork in their Google Drive. Please note that by connecting your Google Login to the system you are giving the system permission to read and write any of your Google Drive files. However our service only accesses the files that the user chooses to share (either through a teacher adding classroom materials from their Google Drive or a student using Google Drive as a storage location of classroom materials). The Google Drive data that the user posts to the system can be shared to our members of that online classroom if the user chooses to do so. No Google Drive file data will be accessed or shared without the user's explicit action. A user's Google data is only accessed and used as required for operation of online classroom functionality.

The Haumana system uses Google Analytics for information on which classes are most popular with visitors.
